July 16, 2012 Minutes



Jackson County Arts met Monday, June 18 at 6:00 PM, at Sarah’s Enchanted Cottage. Members present were Sarah Devader, Gin Fox, Fred Appelhanz, Kathleen Cobb, Linda Brownlow, Amy Cypers, Suzette McCord-Rogers, and Katie Morris.

Teasurer’s Report:
Cash on hand as of 6/18/2012 $541.68
Voted to pay 2 bills- $35.93 for Fair Supplies and $19.07 for Glory Days supplies.

Old Business:
Fair Booth- We will set up our fair booth at noon on July 29th. 2 of the 5 sunflowers are finished. Schocks will bring a medium easel and a stapler, Katie will pick up straight pins, and Fred will print off a picture of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

Open Class drop off for the Fair is Sunday evening 7:30-8:30, or 8:00-12:00 on Monday morning. Open Class checkout is Thursday, August 2nd at 5:00 pm.

Fall Fest- October 13, 2012. We are thinking about a Roy Rogers scarecrow to represent music, maybe incorporating “Happy Trails”.

Barn Tour/Country Living Art Contest- Winning artwork will be displayed as part of the Barn Tour on Barn Tour days and publicly at Sarah’s Enchanted Cottage September 29-October 6. Katie will finish the announcement and entry form to send to county schools.

New Business:
Amy and Katie talked about plans for a Final Friday Art Walk to be held Friday, August 31st. Arrangements are still being made but we are planning to have a few featured artists’ work displayed at The Alleyway Studio and Art Gallery (Cyphers Photography), artists demonstrating, and live music. Tentative hours are 6-8 pm. After we have more plans finalized, we will contact chamber businesses to see if they would be willing to feature artists or musicians. The group made a list of steps to take for planning this event.

Show and Tell: Kathleen showed 2 landscape paintings and Katie showed a mixed media mallard hen and ducklings.

2012 Glory Days Art Show
















June 18, 2012 Minutes



Jackson County Arts met Monday, June 18 at 6:00 PM, at Sarah’s Enchanted Cottage. Members present were Sarah Devader, Gin Fox, Fred Appelhanz, Carol Totten, Donna Kuti, and Katie Morris.

Old Business:
Gin and Katie gave a report on Glory Days. Two new members joined at Glory Days. Gin has a bill to turn in for supplies. Pictures will be posted on www.JacksonCountyArts.blogspot.com soon.

Fair Booth- Katie showed a sketch of her plan for the fair booth. “Crazy for the Arts”. Members volunteered to help paint sunflowers. Katie will bring supplies to Sarah’s by July 1st. Sarah made a movement that Katie be allowed to purchase supplies (sheets and poster board) for the fair booth. Carol seconded the motion, which passed.

Fall Fest- October 13, 2012. We started brainstorming ideas for a scarecrow. Ideas brought up were another Art History scarecrow (Pollock, Dali, Picasso), an altered book scarecrow, or a famous musician. We will think about more ideas and table the discussion until a future meeting.

Barn Tour- The 2012 Jackson County Barn Tour will be held September 29th and October 6th.  We discussed details for the K-12 “Country Living” Art Contest. Entry forms and explanatory letters will be sent to the county schools in August.
 
Altered Books at the Library- Kids’ class July 16-19th from 3:00-4:00. Katie could use a few helpers. Please take your Altered Book to the library to display and advertise the class.

New Business:
Logo- Katie showed a sketch and members discussed creation of a Jackson County Arts logo.

Holton Jazz Festival- We emailed the director of Holton Main Street with an offer to help with the festival. They will be in touch with more information.

Show and Tell: Carol brought miniature sculptures and pins made out of pop cans. Katie showed a finished altered book.

Program: Katie presented a short introduction to night photography and light painting.

Our next meeting will be Monday, July 16, 6:00 pm at Sarah’s.

May 21, 2012 Minutes


Jackson County Arts met Monday, May 21 at 6:00 PM, at Sarah’s Enchanted Cottage. Members present were Sarah Devader, Gin Fox, Fred Appelhanz, and Katie Morris. Several regular attendees were out of town or busy with prior commitments.

Old Business:

Glory Days- Set up/Drop off artwork from 9:00-9:30. Show open from 10:00-2:00. Pick up work at 2:00. Members, please contact Gin Fox (364-4365) to volunteer for an hour-long shift that day. Existing members are also asked to donate two-dozen cookies to the hospitality table. If you are not a member but want to show, you can join that day for $5.

Program: Continuing Altered Books.

Our next meeting will be Monday, June 18. Katie will present information about night photography.

March Minutes


Jackson County Arts met Monday, March 12, 2012 at 6:00 PM, at Sarah’s Enchanted Cottage. Members present were Sarah Devader, David Schock, Linda Brownlow, Mary Schock, Kathleen Cobb, Gin Fox, Suzette McCord-Rogers, Donna Kuti, and Katie Morris.

Old Business:
Altered Book show and class at the library- Katie can teach the kids’ altered book class. Katie will talk to Candee about dates but would prefer the 2nd or 3rd week in July. Suzette can help deliver books to show at the library.

Glory Days- Gin will be the coordinator for the show with Suzette and Donna’s help. David and Mary will be out of town so we will use tables and easels for display at the Courthouse instead of the large display boards.

Fair Booth- Katie will chair the fair booth. We discussed having a theme and a simpler display than last year.

Barn Tour Art Contest- Discussed having a youth Jackson County-themed Art contest. We would have 4 age groups (K-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12) and work could be dropped off at Sarah’s. We will nail down the details at our April meeting so we can let students and teachers know about it before the end of the school year. The Barn Tour will be sometime in October.

New Business: We will try meeting on the 3rd Monday of every month.

Show and Tell: Donna showed beaded earrings. David showed an assembled vulture made from flint knappers. Mary showed several quilt blocks from her State Bird quilt. Kathleen showed an in-progress pastel drawing of a calf. Katie brought some mandalas she made.
 




Program: Sarah gave information on polymer clay and techniques for working with it. Members had a chance to play with the clay.


Our next meeting will be Monday, April 16. The program next month will be working on Altered Books/book pages.

February 2012 Minutes


Jackson County Arts met February 13th at 6:00 PM at Sarah’s Enchanted Cottage. In attendance were Sarah Devader, Katie and Turner Morris, Fred Appelhanz, Kathleen Cobb, Donna Kuti, Mary Schock, David Schock, and Carol Totten.

Old Business
Suzette could not attend the meeting but sent a report. Suzette spoke to staff at the library about the possibility of an Altered Book show. The library is supportive of this idea and suggested an Altered Book class for kids in the summer. A date was not set for the show but it was suggested that it be sometime after County-wide garage sales so artists can pick out books at the library’s sale.  Katie recommended that the age group for the Altered Book class not be younger than 3rd or 4th grade.

New Business
Program ideas suggested were beading, mandalas, polymer clay, night photography, and circle painting.

Show and Tell

Fred shared a poem he wrote inspired by a dream. Donna showed a pouch that she beaded. Kathleen brought an oil landscape painting and a giclee print on canvas. It was hard to tell the difference between the original and the print. The business website is: http://artprintexpress.com/. Mary brought her finished butterfly quilts. Katie showed colored pencil drawings. David showed his handmade valentine.

 
The group swapped handmade valentines and enjoyed refreshments.

January Minutes


Jackson County Arts Minutes

Jackson County Arts met Monday, November 14, 2011 at 6:00 PM. Present were David Schock, Mary Schock, Fred Appelhanz, Katie Morris, Suzette McCord-Rogers, Donna Kuti, Judith Williams, and Rhett and Carol Totten who hosted the meeting at their home.

Old Business
We had introductions and gave a few updates of our artistic endeavors since we last met.
We continued talking more about goals for our organization.
Explore our own art interests and broaden our understanding of Art in the world.
Encourage one another in our own creative efforts.
Add members of different ages and races with a wide variety of abilities.
Provide Art related experiences.
Use our collective talents to beautify something in the community. Future mural?
Invite new members.
Pair up visual artists and writers. Artists make work inspired by writing.

Treasurer’s Report
Cash on hand as of 1-16-12 is $374.68. Suzette reported that all grant reports are turned in. Dues were collected.

New Business
We decided to make handmade Valentines before our February meeting, which we will trade.

Show and Tell
Donna showed a beaded piece that she is working on that depicts a cardinal. Carol read Fred’s new poem, “Within”.  Carol shared one of her newest books. “Elle.” Mary showed two butterfly quilt blocks and a watercolor painting of a parrot. Katie showed a clipboard that she altered and a mandala she is working on.
